21st March is annual Early Music Day. To celebrate, Fullscore Publishing offers a newly-engraved and -edited edition of the motet Noe, noe!, first published in 1502. Written by Antoine Brumel (ca. 1460-1512), who was one of the first renowned French members of the Franco-Flemish school of the Renaissance, and (after Josquin des Prez) was one of the most influential composers of his generation.

The exclamation of joy, ‘Noe, noe’, is the only phrase in this unusual, short (1m 17secs) choral piece. More likely to be associated with Christmas, although it is equally appropriate for a joyful Eastertide.

Hear it sung by the Orlando Consort on Spotify here (or on YouTube).
